The Korean series 'Squid Game' is gaining immense popularity on the internet and the show has an interesting Indian connection. Born in India, actor Anupam Tripathi has been earning a lot of praise for his performance in the K-drama. He plays the role of Ali, a Pakistan-based migrant worker, in the series. The 32-year-old actor reportedly moved to Korea in 2010 and has featured in several Korean TV and movies.
Anupam Tripathi said that he earned a scholarship from Korea National University of Arts (KARTs) before hitting the jackpot with his performance in 'Squid Game'. Interestingly, Anupam made a guest appearance in the Korean film 'Ode to My Father', the Hindi remake of which 'Bharat' starred Salman Khan in the lead. Expressing his gratitude for the immense popularity the series has brought to him, Anupam shared on social media, "It feels like a dream", there are no words to express my gratitude to the people across the world, who are all Ali. Anupam Tripathi in an interview had revealed that his father, coming from a middle-class family in India, believed that Anupam should study, do a job and earn money. Anupam lost his father in 2017. With the success of 'Squid Game', the actor revealed that his mother and brothers are proud of him.
Squid Game Overview
Squid Games was released worldwide on September 17, 2021, to critical acclaim and international attention. Attracting over 142 million member households during the four weeks prior to launch, it is Netflix's most-watched web series of all time.
Seong Gi-hun, a divorced and indebted driver, is invited to play a competition of children's games for the chance of a big cash prize. Accepting the offer, he is taken to an undisclosed location, where he finds himself among 456 players, all in debt.
Players are asked to wear green tracksuits and are kept under surveillance at all times by masked guards in pink jumpsuits, with the game overseen by the frontman, who wears a black mask and black uniform. Players soon discover that losing a game results in their deaths, with each death adding up to a potential 45.6 billion.
Squid Game Plot and Story
The show sheds light on the economic struggles and class divisions in South Korea, with eight characters playing the lead roles. However, as we reach episode 9, five of the leads are dead, and Seong Gi-hun (Player 456), Cho Sang-woo (Player 218) and Kang Sae-Byeok (Player 067) are the finalists. The trio are treated to a lavish steak dinner the night before their last game. It is learned that Karna Kang Sae-Byeok was badly injured due to an injury sustained in the previous game. At the end of the meal, all three are left on the table with a knife. This is a trick to ensure that the weakest of the three is killed before the final round.
Seong Gi-hun, knowing full well that Sang-yu will go to any lengths to be the winner, tries to have him die in his sleep, but Kang Sae-Byeok reminds him that he is a murderer. is not. Gi-hun suggests that they team up against Sang-woo, but she takes his promise to mean that between them, whoever wins will take care of the other person's family. As Sae-byeok's condition worsens and Gi-hun goes to ask for help, Sang-woo kills him.
On the other hand, cop Hwang Joon-ho, who is on the run, comes face to face with the front man who identifies himself as his brother Hwang In-ho whom he was looking for at the gaming camp. In-ho shoots Joon-ho who falls from the cliff into the sea.
Mourning Sae-byeok's death, Gi-hun heads to the end zone to play against Sang-woo, the squid game. The two engage in a brutal fight, and when Gi-hun is about to win, he refuses to make the final move to complete the championship. He requests Sang-woo to join him in calling for the game to be canceled according to the last section. But Sang-woo slashes himself on the neck and tells Gi-hyun to take care of his mother.
Gi-hun is traumatized and is haunted by the survivor's guilt upon his return home. He learns that his own mother is dead and despite getting all the money, he keeps her untouched by the bank for months. One night he receives an invitation letter. He goes to meet a man who is none other than Oh II-nam(Player 001).
In fact he is also the mastermind who created the game to entertain the dirty rich, bored people like himself. He also reminded Gi-hun that many players had voluntarily returned to the camp. All the games were from his childhood, and he came out of nostalgia as one of the participants. He challenges Gi-hun to a dying street person by the side of the road to see if he will get any help before midnight. Although Gi-hun wins, Il-nam dies of a brain tumor.
Fulfilling the promises made to both Sai-byeok and Sang-woo, Gi-hyun hands over the money to his family members. On his way to the airport to visit his daughter in Los Angeles, Gi-hun sees the same recruiter playing daddy with another man. Although the recruiter runs away, Gi-hun snatches the card from the other person and calls the number to ask who is still playing the game. The voice, probably from the front man, tells Gi-hun to get on the plane and do his business. Gi-hun, instead, does it the other way, and stays back in Seoul with a vow to uncover the front man.
